clearinghouses
are virtual collections of data distributed over many
servers in the United States and abroad. The primary
intention of the Clearinghouses are to allow users to
evaluate its quality through descriptions, known as
"metadata".

| Metadata creation tools are used to help with documenting data. They assist with entering and editing metadata and utilities for preprocessing, postprocessing, and validating metadata. Most of these tools were designed to help complete Content Standards for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM) metadata, but several have been tuned to produce specific local metadata profiles. |
